Poor dog

It turns out I'm not the only one who feels a bit like someone switched dogs on us while we weren't looking. Most of the cats aren't sure either. Scooter is OK with the change, but things like that don't really bother him much. Camille settled down after she got a chance to give the dog a good sniff. Cleo was a bit jumpy around the dog and had to walk around meowing to let everyone know that there was something wrong with the dog. Damien, Whiskey and Storm are all pretty wary of the dog, but not any jumpier than usual. Rogue is completely scared of the dog right now. The first time the dog came around the corner close to her Rogue jumped up onto the back of my chair all puffed up and hissing. Rogue usually sleeps on the bed with me, but absolutely refused last night because the dog was there. I'm hoping eveything settles down in a few days for the dog's sake. I don't think she has any idea why the cats don't like her anymore.

Odds 'n' Ends

Another busy Saturday. I vacuumed and mopped the the hall and kitchen floors, got some laundry done and got a lot of the bills for May paid. I'm pretty wiped out right now. Normally I would try to spread the chores out a bit, but since Friday was payday for E and I we have to go do our big shopping trip for the month. I'm not really excited by the prospect but it has to be done. I also have to get ready for bird sitting in a few weeks so I had to get a cage ordered since I don't want to drive all the way out to A's place three times a day. The birds will, of course, need toys to keep them occupied so I'm going to try to make some since I already have a lot of scap tooling leather that I can use.

The dog went to the groomer today, and because she had some sizeable mats they had to trim off a bit more than we expected. She looks bald at this point, although you can definitely see that she has some German Shepard in her. I feel awful about it because I feel like we're bad owners for letting her get to that point, but it's hard to brush her because of the way her coat is. I'm hoping that with it starting out this short we can get a better handle on it. She also gets to go to the vet for shots on Tuesday so she has a big week ahead of her.

Last night E and I went and saw Mannheim Steamroller in concert and it was fantastic. I had really forgotten how much I enjoyed their music. I got a set of all of the Fresh Aire albums on CD and I listened to that most of the day.

Not much else, but I still feel like someone replaced my usual dog with Folgers crystals while I wasn't looking.

I'm back

Did anyone miss me? I probably don't update this enough for anyone to notice an absence of a few days I expect. At any rate, I had an exciting few days. I started having problems logging into the internet Sunday night which continued into Monday. E fiddled around with things and came up with a few possible causes. Thankfully it was the least expensive one and here I am. My Thor's hammer bracelet also went missing over the weekend, but E found it in his car late Monday night. E is pretty much my hero at this point.

It's been a quiet night for the most part. I thought about doing dishes, but didn't. Thought about taking a shower and did. Had to go out into the backyard to do something a little bit ago and the dog across the alley started barking and hasn't quit. (I feel sorry for the dog but I think it may drive me crazy because you don't even have to get to the back part of the yard for it to start barking.) I also read a large backlog of email, checked on some stuff on eBay and checked the bank account. I guess I actually did do a good amount of stuff tonight.

Busy day

It's been another busy day. I got the rest of the laundry done, got the trash out to be picked up tomorrow, did a lot of dishes and cleaned the kitchen. I even pulled out some things I never use and plan to get rid of them. I'll find out if A wants them first and if she doesn't they will go in with the other things in the donate pile. The big advantage to all of this cleaning of course, is that once I have it done then I can just do touch up cleaning and it won't be quite so overwhelming.

The downside is that even though I didn't do that much, I'm exhausted and my hands and wrists are really bothering me now. I'm worried that I'm going to have problems tomorrow because of this, but I guess I'll work around it. It definitely means I'm not going to be working on jewelry tonight like I planned, I can't imagine doing that while my hands don't seem to want to work well. I'm never sure if I should be relieved or disappointed that just about the time I start wondering if anything is really wrong with me that I have a day where I do a lot and end up feeling this way.

They are forecasting snow for tomorrow which I'm not looking forward to. I've lived here for most of my life so I know snow in the spring is normal, but I just hate having to drive in it and I hate the slushy mess we end up with when it starts to melt. At least I don't have to try to get the trash taken out in the snow.

(4/25/06 For anyone who read this earlier I had problems connecting to the internet right after I edited this post Sunday night and the changes never went through. Thankfully E, being the computer/network god that he is, was able to figure out the problem and I am back on the internet. Good thing too, I think I was starting to have withdrawal symptoms.)

It's amazing

We actually have a living room again. All it really took was moving the dining room table back into the dining room area, shifting a couple of other things around, picking up the clutter and vacuuming. There's so much space I feel like I could hold a dance and the carpet actually looks halfway decent. The next project is to really straighten up the kitchen, but that will wait until later since I'm pretty wiped out now. We also got the aluminum taken in to the recycler.

Another (not very) exciting Friday night

And that's OK. E and I went to the store because I had to pick up two prescriptions and we picked up a few things that A needed. (E will take those over when he goes over tomorrow night.) I looked at the dishes again and I really can't decide what I want to do. The ones that I want come in a set of four place settings which doesn't really give us a lot of bowls or small plates and I don't know if I want to buy two sets. Also, I'm not sure what I'd do with the rest. I guess I could pack them up and we could sell them at a garage sale or take them to Goodwill but I'm still not sure about it. I can't really consider buying them until next week when we get paid so that gives me a bit of time to think about it.

It's done

The big move was today. I wasn't involved in the actual moving of stuff, but I helped with packing and organizing and then I did some cleaning in the dining room area after everyone was gone. I can say I'm very impressed with the new vacuum because it picked up almost everything and even made a good go at a few things that were too big. The vacuum did so well the carpet in that area almost looks new. So, if anyone is looking at buying a new vacuum cleaner I highly recommend a Dyson.

I'm still not quite sure how I feel about it. It's odd to have almost nothing over in the dining room area and it's really odd to not have the birds there. It's nice to not have to worry about the things I want to do bothering other people and I'm really looking forward to rearranging things, finishing up the decorating and getting some new things. The last is an odd side effect of this, I've realized that I have some household items that I've never replaced. One of those things is dishes. We have an odd mish-mash of dishes, and the only full set we have is one that my parents got me when I went to college, and that was a long time ago. It never struck me until now that it would be nice to have new dishes. I won't get rid of all of the rest of them, but it would be nice to get something new.

In the end I think that a very wise lady on the message board is right, there will be things that delight me, and things that break my heart and it is all OK. There's no reason to assign what I feel to one side or the other, I just need to feel what I am feeling and move forward.

Exciting evening after an ordinary day

Had a busy day at work, worked on a bit of jewelry this evening, nothing exciting. It was so nice today I had the front door open to get some fresh air in the house and when I walked back into the living room a bit a go I noticed multi-colored lights flashing outside. I went over to the door and there is an ambulance parted at our neighbor's house with a fire truck pulling up. It looked like our neighbor was moving when they brought her out on the gurney, and they didn't go blazing off with the sirens going so it wasn't a huge emergency, but I'm still a bit worried.

You have the day off. . .no, just kidding!

Odd day today. The phone rang around a quarter to 6 this morning, I didn't get functional enough to grab the phone so A answered it. It was my supervisor calling to say that work was cancelled for us. She came up to tell me and I had to get up and look outside and it didn't look that bad. I was puzzled so I turned on the radio and they announced it too. Let the dog out, and it was very windy and the road looked pretty icy so I figured that was the reason for it. A got a call from her office saying they had to be in at noon. E said he was awake going to stay up, so I went back to bed and after a while went back to sleep. Got up around 10:30 and it looked pretty good outside. Around noon my supervisor called to say they had reconsidered and wanted up to go in at 1:00 if we could. All I had planned to do was getting some laundry done and take care of a few other things so I went in. It was incredibly quiet so I got a bunch of stuff done which was good.

The big downer for today was that A was supposed to do the closing for her trailer today and couldn't because the title company closed. It's rescheduled for Monday which isn't bad but it was very disappointing for her. I'm still not sure how I feel about the whole thing but there's no going back at this point. I just need to settle into the idea that A needs to try this out to see if she can do it.

We have a big weekend ahead of us. Tomorrow we have the arts competition that I'm entering the satchel in so we have to be up to get there in time for me to check in. Thankfully it's taking place around 10 minutes away. Then on Sunday we are going to go get a new vaccum which I'm pretty excited about. (I think it's a true sign of adulthood to be really excited about things like that.)

It's funny

I feel some odd compulsion to try to post here every day even though I usually don't have much to talk about. I really think in some ways I'm too boring to have a blog. No deep meaningful posts on current events, no funny stories, nothing revolutionary or inflammatory. Just me going on and on about little things in my life. I guess it's a good thing I don't expect a book deal or anything to come out of my blogging. Hell, I'd be happy if someone followed the link to the eBay store and just looked around.

Any way, I'm headachy and tired and don't want to turn this into a mopefest so I'll close it out for today. (Although I think I'd need a moodier layout with sad poetry and art, and maybe some floaty music to really turn it into a mopefest. I'm just not up to making a blog like that so maybe this is just a little whine. Or a little bit of a mope. Or something like that.)

Another Monday

Not much going on tonight. I finished up my documentation and it's ready to be copied. The bag still looks good and I'm starting to feel better about how it turned out. I did some shopping on eBay for more silver for the all silver bracelet experiement, luckily I've found a seller based in the US so I'll probably get everything this week. I really need to sit down and work on some more silver stuff since I sold one of the bracelets last Friday and I'd like to have several for A to have for sale at the event.

It was a rough day at work because I had to deal with a case that will be denied because of the employer objecting. I talked to the injured worker several times during the day and that just drains me. I have some denials to do that will be equally difficult that I have to work on tomorrow. The scary thing is, I really like my job, it's just that some days leave me an empty husk huddled in the corner. I guess I should back up a bit because I've never said what I do at work up to now. I deal with workers' compensation claims and for a lot of reasons, mainly privacy requirements for my job, I'll leave it at that. It also means anything I say about the things I do will have to be pretty general as well.

Busy weekend

It's been a busy weekend so far. I got the straps for the bag cut out and dyed, did a bunch of laundry, read through a paper someone else is writing for the competition next week, paid most of the bills and worked on my own documentation. Right now I'm trying to decide what to do next and listening to the wind whip around the house. Looking at the weather Channel they are saying winds at 43 mph with gusts up to 52 mph. That seems about right because the wind seemed pretty stout when I was letting the dog out and in. I do think it's funny that I'm so used to wind from living here that it takes winds this high for me to think it's actually windy. Anything else is just a stiff breeze.

I got the bag finished tonight and put an put an update and picture over on my project blog if anyone is interested.
